Automations

Send emails automatically when a reader takes a specific action — new subscriber welcome, inactivity re-engagement, and more.

Automations are emails triggered by reader actions or inactivity. Set them up once and they run in the background without manual intervention.

Available triggers

TriggerWhen it fires
New subscriberWhen a reader completes a subscription payment
Segment enteredWhen a reader's segment changes (e.g. casual → regular)
Ad engagedWhen a reader completes an ad view
InactivityWhen a subscriber hasn't visited in N days

Creating an automation

  1. Go to Dashboard → Email → Automations
  2. Click New automation
  3. Choose a trigger
  4. Set trigger conditions (e.g. "subscriber on Monthly plan" or "inactive for 30 days")
  5. Write the email — subject, body, from address
  6. Set a delay (optional) — wait N hours/days after the trigger before sending
  7. Toggle the automation on and click Save

Welcome email

Trigger: New subscriber
Delay: Immediate
Purpose: Thank the subscriber, remind them what they get, link to your best content

Re-engagement

Trigger: Inactivity (30 days)
Purpose: Remind dormant subscribers why they subscribed. Include a link to recent popular content

Upgrade prompt

Trigger: Segment entered (regular)
Purpose: When a reader becomes a regular, prompt them to subscribe — they've demonstrated enough engagement to be likely to convert

Automation stats

Each automation shows the total emails sent, open rate, and click rate over its lifetime. Use this to evaluate whether the automation is working and refine your copy.
