Terms of Service

Last updated June 11, 2026

These terms govern your use of OnePaywall — the dashboard, the embed script, and the APIs. By creating an account or installing the embed on a site you operate, you agree to them.

1. The service

OnePaywall provides monetization infrastructure for publishers: content gates, reader intelligence, analytics, ad serving, payments, subscriber management, and email tools, delivered through a JavaScript embed and a web dashboard.

We may improve or modify features over time. We will not materially reduce the core functionality you pay for during a billing period without notice.

2. Your account and team

You must provide accurate information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account, including the actions of team members you invite. Owner, admin, and member roles carry different permissions — assign them deliberately.

3. Acceptable use

You may only install the embed on websites you own or are authorised to operate. You agree not to:

  • Use OnePaywall to gate or distribute unlawful content.
  • Misrepresent ads, pricing, or gate behaviour to readers.
  • Attempt to deanonymise readers or combine OnePaywall data with other data to identify anonymous readers.
  • Probe, disrupt, or reverse-engineer the service, or resell it without a written agreement.

4. Reader payments and your obligations

Reader payments (subscriptions, article unlocks, digital products) are contracts between you, the publisher, and your readers. You are responsible for honouring what readers purchase, your refund policy, applicable taxes, and the legality of charging for your content in the jurisdictions you serve.

When you use OnePaywall's platform payment keys, a commission (disclosed on your plan) is applied to reader transactions. When you bring your own payment gateway keys, settlement happens directly in your gateway account.

5. Platform billing

Paid plans are billed monthly in advance, plus metered overages (gate triggers, subscriber seats, ad impressions) billed in arrears as described on the pricing page. Trials convert to paid plans only when you choose one — we don't auto-charge at trial end.

If payment fails, we retry; if it continues to fail, your subscription may be suspended after a grace period, which stops gates from serving until billing is restored. You can cancel any time — cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

6. Your data

You retain ownership of your content, configuration, and the reader relationships you build. You grant us the licence needed to operate the service on your behalf (storing, processing, and serving your data and creatives).

Data handling is described in the Privacy Policy. You can export your workspace data and delete your workspace at any time from Settings → Danger zone.

7. Availability and support

We aim for high availability but the service is provided "as is" and "as available". The embed is designed to fail open — if OnePaywall is unreachable, your content is shown rather than blocked. Support is provided by email; response targets depend on your plan.

8. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, OnePaywall's total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including lost revenue from gate downtime or misconfiguration.

9. Termination

You may stop using the service and delete your workspace at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practicable. On termination, your embed stops serving gates and your data is handled per the retention rules in the Privacy Policy.

10. Changes and contact

We may update these terms; material changes will be announced to account owners by email at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
